Rehabbing captive parrots since 1997

Currently, we are requiring Covid vaccinations and all relevant boosters to enter the building. Vaccination cards must be available at the door.

Visits are by appointment only, and can be made by utilizing our form in the Contact Us tab. We are typically scheduling weekdays from 2-4pm and select weekends from 11-1. Please specify your availability in the request.

We are the only health inspected rescue in the state of Iowa, and the only rescue between Chicago and Denver.

Donations are the lifeblood of the rescue. They go to support vet bills, maintenance, utilities, food, enrichment, and so much more. Every contribution, whether in-kind or monetary, is utilized to its fullest.

Spotlight Birds

SAMMY

Sammy is a 44-ish year old male Citron Cockatoo, which is a critically endangered species. He is a goofy fella that loves to destroy his toys. He’s got a bit of a troubled past and requires a patient and resilient keeper… Someone who really understands cockatoos and wants to provide a safe place for a fun buddy.

PAPA

Papa is a male wild caught Blue-front Amazon, being wild caught we do not know his true age. He’s typically quiet, reserved, and doesn’t want to be touched. Lately he’s gotten excited during feeding time and is now greeting us with BIG “hi”s and “hello”s. It’s thrilling to watch him come out of his shell a bit more.

LEVI

Levi is a 19 year old female Severe macaw. She’s good at winning over most people that come her way-but she’s gotta go with someone just as headstrong as her! There’s a lot of attitude in her little body, as we say… The name explains their personality perfectly. Severe macaws are known to be a little nippy and Levi is no exception. As long as you can put up with that, she’ll be a really fun companion.

Sponsorships

Sponsoring our sanctuary birds is a wonderful way to get regular personal updates on the rescue and support specific birds. There are a number of reasons for birds to have sanctuary status here, anything from education birds to lifelong special needs. They also make a great gift in someone’s name. See all the birds we have for sponsorship here!

Bilbo — $100

Bilbo is a sweet, playful, and cuddly bird that assists us in educating the public about parrots. She’s overcome a lot since her arrival 10 years ago.

Paulie — $60

Paulie is a grouchy little blue-crowned conure. He is a sanctuary resident due to many complex medical conditions.

Teegan — $75

Teegan is a very entertaining and very difficult bird. He is “adoptable”, but in what most would consider a unicorn home.
