  • TUFFY

Tuffy is a 27 year old male Yellow-nape. He can be super snuggly when he has you alone, but like most amazons there is the occasional oops bite. He becomes aggressive when he is around other birds so he will need to be in a single bird home. Tuffy is very territorial of his cage.

  • HERKIE/HERCULES

Hercules is a 35 year old male Orange wing. He isn’t interested in being held on a hand, but will step onto a stick. He would rather sit aside and listen to you sing/talk. In a single bird home, he may open up a bit more. He has some vision loss, as well as a skin irritation on his rump. He has arthritis, so rope perches are best for him. Herky may look like an old man, but he’s got some real spunk in his step at times.

  • TICO

Tico is a suspected wildcaught bird, acquired 35 years ago. We know he doesn’t like men and is pretty wild with anybody else, though he was friendly with his female owner. He will want somebody experienced in amazons to tame him down. Tico enjoys pets and singing with people he likes. We aren’t sure if he can step on a stick-his feet aren’t in great shape (missing toes, arthritis).

Unfortunately we discovered through repetitive bloodwork that Tico has a progressive liver condition. Invasive procedures would not likely change his prognosis so he is on supportive care with daily medications and a strict diet. Tico takes his meds very happily each day on a piece of bread. He could be adopted by somebody medically savvy (or at least very willing to learn) and someone who wants to give him the best, most comfortable time he has left.

WALLFLOWERS

  • SCOOTER

Scooter is a 28 year old male yellow-headed amazon. He likes to spend time with other birds and hasn’t been tame his whole life. He has potential to be a nice, entertaining bird who might not ever want to be held. He wants a low stress home with other birds to keep him company.

  • TYSON

Tyson is an older male red-lored amazon. We don’t have much history on him, only that he was purchased in 2021 at an auction in Missouri as an “old breeding pair” with his partner, Pearl. We don’t know his age and he is not particularly tame. Pearl and Tyson were a very very bonded pair who loved to preen each other. Sadly, at her advanced age, Pearl passed away here suddenly and left Tyson. He likes to talk, whistle, and sing when he’s feeling cheerful but it may be a while until he is able to accept another bird or person. Parrot grief is complex and may take months or years to recover from.

Tyson and Pearl didn’t mind other birds, and I imagine with time Tyson will accept another friend. He likely won’t end up being “handleable”, though he will step on a stick on occasion. Hes just looking for someone to love him for however long he has left. He’s a great bird and wants to show someone that, and has never really had a chance to get the attention he should have all these years. Tyson needs a second chance.

  • PONGO & NEMO

Pongo is a male blue-front of unknown age and Nemo is a male Southern Mealy of unknown age. It’s likely they are both on the old side. They share a cage and CANNOT be separated.

Pongo is not tame, but Nemo will step on a stick and get pets when he feels like it. Pongo can also go on a stick to be transported onto a perch. These two have lived in an outside aviary for most of the year in their previous home and really thrive when they have lots of room to climb and fly. These two will be a great pair to just watch and occasionally interact with, but they’re happier left on their own. Nemo is very noisy! Regular baths and enrichment can help keep him busy and quieter. His photo is to the right.

CUDDLEBUGS

  • ARTHUR

Arthur is a 26 year old male Mealy Amazon. He is a gentle giant, enjoying to be pet on the head on his terms. He may take a little time to warm up but so far he is responding gently to all handling and beak rubs. For an Amazon, he’s pretty quiet. He hasn’t stepped up yet and needs a lot of coaxing to do so. He is a super snuggler with most women, and non aggressive towards men. He does have a clear preference though.

Arthur is very special to us and we will be picky about his placement.

  • PEANUT

Peanut is a male 20 year old Blue-front Amazon who recently returned that can’t wait to find his perfect woman. He is choosy of his people and totally non aggressive towards others when he isn’t partial to them. He would rather back away than go after someone-a rare trait for a mature male Amazon. He loves to dance, sing, and snuggle, sometimes a bit too much. He tends to get overly hormonal so a bit of boundaries and space would do him well. He’s been fully vetted here within the last year and is all ready for adoption.

  • CHIQUITA

Chiquita is a female double-yellow head Amazon around 15 years old. So far, she is an absolute sweetheart and a blabber mouth. She has a large vocabulary and a gentle touch. She isn’t too keen on stepping up yet but she really likes head scratches and being talked to. She isn’t sure how she feels about other birds but she does not seem to mind them too much. Chiquita will need to be well vetted-looks like she’s been living on seed and peanuts so a diet change will do her wonders. The great news is, she’s already taking very well to Harrison’s pellets.

  • BOGEY

Bogie is a 23 year old male Double Yellowhead. He hates all women, and likes some men. Other people work him up, but when he is alone he likes to spend time “cuddling” with his favorite man. He is placed in this category because, despite occasionally enjoying pets, he is still a very advanced bird to handle.

  • ELVIS

Elvis is a male blue-front of unknown age. He is a wildcaught bird as well, and is handicapped. He has severe arthritis in his feet from improper caging in his previous homes and as a result will require a handicapped accessible cage with platforms and soft rope perches. Elvis is a special bird, because he survived two major parrot rescue collapses/neglect seizures. He’s here for a reason and we want someone really committed to giving this old man a safe home.

  • KILGORE

Kilgore is a male Blue-front of unknown age. He is wildcaught, would prefer to stay wild, and we are okay with that. He needs a look-don’t-touch home…someone who will care for him, feed him grapes, and talk to him without touching. Kilgore LOVES his baths.

  • PAPA

Papa is a male Blue front, at least 30 years old. He is wildcaught and wants to stay wild. He talks to the other amazons, but would prefer to be left alone and be a look-don’t-touch bird.
